Travelling Crib
The Mothers Union of St Peters are re-starting the Traveling Crib, which is a group of knitted figures in a small basket goes from family to family throughout the parish, ending up at St Peters church in time for the Crib service on Christmas Eve. This year this tradition has been revived and Victoria School will be having the crib for the week commencing Monday 5 December to Friday 9 December.
A member of the Mothers Union will be coming into school during assembly time on Tuesday, before it starts its journey on Advent Sunday to talk to the children about the crib and explained what would happen. To 'apply' to have the crib to stay the children need to colour in a Christmas picture which will be emailed out. This is signed by the parents to say they are willing to host the crib and the winners are drawn from these entries. Paper copies can be collected from the office.
Kindness Week
We have had a wonderful week of kindness where children have been completing their class kindness calendar, wearing odd socks to celebrate our differences, learning about speaking out and staying safe and finishing the week with raising money for Children in Need. Even the staff got involved with each of us receiving ‘random acts of kindness’ gifts from an anonymous staff member which has brightened up everyone’s week.
Christmas Cards of Hope
This week the children have been making Christmas cards and writing messages for the Christmas Cards of Hope campaign set up by St Peter’s church. The children reflected on how their cards would brighten up someone’s day, especially if they were on their own at Christmas and didn’t have family and friends who would send them cards. We will be posting them at St Peter’s later next week.
Writing Week
Next week we are having a whole school focus on writing. Children will be given creative writing opportunities to write from a stimulus shared in an assembly at the start of the week. Teachers will be building on writing skills over the rest of the week to support their independent writing activity that they will complete at the end of the week. The idea is to promote writing for pleasure but at the same time supporting ideas and writing techniques to enable everyone to have a go at their level.
