Big Green Week
For Big Green Week the children will be completing a range of activities linked to this year’s theme ‘Let’s Swap Together for Good’. We will be looking at recycling, reducing food waste and litter picking around the school.
On Thursday, to show our support of the Big Green Week, we, are asking the children to wear green. This could be from being dressed from head to toe in green clothing or wearing an individual item of green. This will be a non-school uniform day and there is no donation, we simply want to remind the children about how important it is to care for our environment.
As part of Berkhamsted’s Great Big Green Week, Rectory Lane Cemetery is once again running a FREE event for families on Sunday 15th June, between 10.00 and 13.00.
An ideal Father's Day activity for the whole family! Drop in for an hour to their FREE Great Big Nature Hunt: knowledgeable guides are on hand to help you to discover different aspects of nature in their three green acres: bees, bugs, butterflies, newts... so much wildlife on your doorstep! Children can join in the hunt, do some crafting and enjoy a small reward at the end.
The event is free, but the charity does welcome donations on the day to help look after this community space. Book tickets at https://tinyurl.com/2s3fmzxc
Phonic Screening Check
During next week all the Year 1 children and Year 2 children (who need to retake) will take part in the Phonic Screening Check. The check is an opportunity to see how children apply their phonic knowledge to decode 20 real and 20 non-real (alien words). The words contain the phonemes that have been taught in Reception and Year 1.
They complete the check individually and at their own pace. Results will be sent with the end of year reports and any children who are working towards the standard will get an opportunity to re-take the test in Year 2. Children in Year 2 who are working towards after their re-check, will not have to complete the test again. Further information from the DFE for parents can be found here.
Electric Umbrella
After their fantastic semi-final performance on Britain’s Got Talent, we have Electric Umbrella coming to Victoria for the whole day!
On Thursday 12th June Electric Umbrella will be joining us again with a whole school interactive performance then playground singalongs. In the afternoon, there will be workshops with Nursery and Year 1.
